Field

Field description

Field as a painting asserts that, as in nature, the visible is merely a by-product of complex internal dynamics.
Field is the premiere piece from 2007. It is an orchestral response to the premise that I work from. A painting that provoked great nervousness from me as I came to the end of its completion, as I believed it was a work that would encompass all that I had endeavoured with for the proceeding 12 months.

Field is a painting that provides much enjoyment from the awareness of the process. The constant layering of ribbons of colour, light and incident in search of the moment a piece realises itself.

Field is a painting that is among those rare works that manage to arrest the eye and mesmerise without the slightest sign of aggression. The creamy texture of the paint as I have pulled and scraped it calls attention to the physicality of the medium. Brilliant red and blue shapes seem to be suspended over a liquid teal background ribboning through an agitated field.

The material of paint has taken on a new importance. This painting asserts that, as in nature, the visible is merely a by-product of complex internal dynamics. Needless to say I consider it as a personal favourite.
